How closures are decided in Mississippi

A district can run fewer than 180 days only under a governor's or president's disaster or emergency declaration with State Board approval, and funding for missed days is capped at ten. Up to two of the 180 may be 60 percent days, which covers early dismissals ahead of an afternoon ice storm.

Virtual days have been allowed since 2021 under the State Board's policy on designated school-wide or district-wide virtual learning days (7 Miss. Code R. 3-9.3). A district may use them for unplanned circumstances such as weather, but each must deliver the full 330 minutes of actual teaching, and they may not be used for planning time, testing, athletics or to pad a holiday.
